Responsibilities
The candidate will 
  • Develop, maintain and supervise implementation of   protocols for operation of Site utilities including Instrument Air compressors, N2 Systems (cylinders/ generators), Cooling Towers, Gas boosting systems Ex. H2 System (Cylinders/ Generators), Chilling Units, Fire Water Pumps, Mechanical components of Diesel Generators and other mechanical systems 
  • Be accountable for execution of maintenance/revamp projects (Management of Change, Line Breaking etc.) with required safety systems (ex. LOTO, engineering controls, administrative controls, portable detection etc)
  • Ensure maintenance in line with safe Chemical Handling procedures 
  • Develop and implement  periodic Inspection plan as applicable for all equipment 
  • Be the custodian of processes for Mechanical equipment appraisals with inspections in line with Site HSEMS
  • Leverage technical expertise to identify alternate vendors for annual maintenance contracts, service contracts and procurement of equipment and piping
  • Track key performance indicators of contractors 
  • Be responsible for developing and implementing Asset tracking practices and documentation in an EOU environment
  • Ensure that Site operational costs are monitored and charged 
  • Manage the permits and statutory compliance activities of the Shell Labs and liaison with statutory authorities. 
  • Support Site Activities as delegated by the Site Operations Manager including Emergency Response, Shift responsibilities, management of safety critical equipment, travel to vendor locations, undertake accident investigations, contractor training and management etc.
Requirements

  • B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering 
  • A minimum of 6 years relevant experience preferably in an R&D or petrochemical environment on Pilot Plants and associated systems
  • Knowledge of  external standards and codes relevant to Mechanical engineering for rotating or static equipment
  • Direct experience with contractor management including identification, record keeping, HSE management etc. desirable
  • Contractor statutory compliances management including implementing contract labor laws as applicable desirable
  • Fully aware of requirements for safely working in a laboratory/ Pilot Plant environment and experience in implementing HSE controls for laboratory/ Pilot plant activities. Experience with implementing Permit-to-Work systems for high risk activities in a chemical environment a plus
  • Fully aware of PPE selection and usage for various high risk activities
  • Direct experience with use and maintenance of lab or pilot plant Ex-proof equipment and instrumentation
  • Experience with handling flammable and toxic chemicals with knowledge of chemical compatibilities and MSDS requirements for hazardous substances desirable
  • Skill level in proper handling and storage of chemicals along with appropriate selection and  use of handling equipment
  • Quality assurance programs and lab record documentation; 
  • The applicant should demonstrate good communication skills in English, Hindi and Kannada and be comfortable in team-oriented, collaborative environment. 
  • Demonstrated experience of working with local engineering contractors including for piping/tubing, electrical, instrumentation, chemical handling and material movement 
  • Authorization to work in India is required for this position.
